It all started back in 1965, Venice, Los Angeles, California.
Summer, school's over, time to think about future 'n stuff...

Ray is in the beach, trying to get inspired by the Sun and the waters to figure this all out, then fate comes in the form of a college friend, Jim Morrison. Ray ask him "Hey man, what have you been doing?" Jim: "Not much, been writing some songs..." Ray: "Oh! can you sing one for me?"
Lets swim to the moon
Lets Climb thru the tides
Penetrate the evenin' that the city sleeps to hide
Right there The Doors was formed. Months later Robby Krieger and John Desnmore filled guittar and drums. This month, october, forty years ago they got their first contract with Columbia Records. It was provisional, with the lowest royalty rate available and it lasted 5 months. A few months later they were working for Elektra Records and in 1967 in the middle of the Summer of Love they made the top of the american charts with Light My Fire! |

"Rock n roll mirrors the society just like any other art form does, maybe we truly were
ahead of our time, maybe a couple of years, and we were just a reflection of what was to come"

Ray Manzarek |
"We could feel in concerts that 'sociologicly' we were affecting people. I´m proud of that, thats for sure."

"Once the doors of perception are open, they are open,
once they are cleansed, they stay cleansed" (Ray Manzarek)

Long live Rock'n Roll!

Let's swim out tonight, love
It's our turn to try
Parked beside the ocean
On our moonlight drive
Let's swim to the moon
Uh-huh
Let's climb thru the tide
Surrender to the waiting worlds that lap against our side
Nothin' left open
And no time to decide
We've stepped into a river
On our moonlight drive
Let's swim to the moon
Let's climb thru the tide
You reach a hand to hold me
But I can't be your guide
Easy to love you as I watch you glide
Falling through wet forests
On our moonlight drive
Moonlight drive
C'mon, baby, gonna take a little ride
Goin' down by the ocean side
Gonna get real close
Get real tight
Baby gonna drown tonight
Goin' down, down, down
~ Moonlight Drive ~
