Tony Funches, Leon Barnard, Kathy Lisciandro and The Doors

LEON BARNARD

Some 30 years back, Leon Barnard was the "bare feet" (never wearing shoes) press agent for The Doors. Jim was amused by Leon´s care-free mind, "Hippie go lucky" life style so that Jim used to call him "Mr. Good vibes".

In 1968, during The Doors tour in Europe, Leon became part of the "extended Doors family" which was The Doors and their office pals: Tony Funches, Jim´s bodyguard, Kathy Lisciandro, their secretary, Bill Siddons, manager, Frank Lisciandro, photographer.

Before he joined The Doors' crew, Leon graduated in fine arts. He used to draw and paint. One night Leon and Jim sat on a table to start creating a comic book together.

It really amazed me that Leon and Jim even thought of doing it. Leon remembers:

Our only and Main disagreement was...which came first:
My drawings for him to capture with words...or his words for
me to illustrate.

The debate ended in a drawing between "The Two Superstars"
at the table that evening...and then he began to drink...a full
bottle of Courvoisier presented to him as a birthday gift.

Having read those lines, I HAD to contact Leon and show him my website. He was very nice and enthusiatic in his comments and said we should do something together in the future and so we did check it out

Leon now published a book in the memory of Jim Morrison, a friend he still have a great respect. The book is called Waiting for an echo, find more about at his website:
